Traveling solo can be an incredible adventure, and I have a lot of admiration for people who do it. Personally, it’s just not for me. I like having company when I travel. I like the security of knowing someone is there, but more than anything, I love sharing the experience with someone else. The views, the meals, the unexpected moments, the things that go wrong and become funny later—they’re just better to me when there’s someone beside me to share them with.

I lost my mom when I was thirty-seven. I think that was one of the first times in my life I truly realized that I was getting older—and that time wasn’t going to wait for me.

Gravel roads, soybean fields, cornfields, small towns, friendly neighbors, and tractors—that pretty accurately describes the world I grew up in.

I guess you could say my cousin Kim and I have short attention spans and apparently need to entertain ourselves while traveling. Somewhere along the way, we discovered a Snapchat filter that turned us into trolls—and naturally, it became a very important part of the trip.
After doing a lot of research over the years, I've learned that going to Oktoberfest itself isn't necessarily the difficult part. Figuring out the beer tents and getting the experience we want is where things get more complicated.
As you can probably imagine, my travel bucket list is miles long—and what’s at the top seems to change all the time.
